Synergy WorldWide traveled to Kentucky to personally congratulate the newest SLMsmart 90-day Challenge Champion Eric Poland and learn more about his SLMsmart journey. A devoted family man and employee of the only Corvette manufacturing plant in the world, Eric lost 40 lbs. (20% of his starting body weight) and 7 inches from his waist.
Eric’s success of this year sets an important example for many, as this was NOT his first attempt to lose weight. In fact, Eric participated in last year’s SLMsmart Challenge, the year Eva Miller won her well-deserved grand prize. That year, 2015, Eric was able to lose an impressive 20 lbs. but lost momentum halfway through the competition after experiencing family and employment challenges. Remarkably, Eric was able to recommit himself a year later and become the SLMsmart Champion we celebrate today!
We commend Eric for getting “back in the saddle” this year and claiming the first place prize. Utilizing the Corvette plant’s gym during his breaks, eating a healthy diet of produce and proteins, and incorporating Synergy products into his daily regimen, Eric was able to make his weight loss goals a reality.

Thanks to everyone who participated in Synergy’s 2016 SLMsmart Challenge! Enthusiastic men and women across North America set their sights on achieving healthy transformation using powerful products and nutritious foods. With money and prizes on the line, these participants experienced a 90-day journey meant to inspire life-long habits and maintainable weight management.
In the end, a panel of judges chose three winners based on before-and-after pictures and visible progress. The decision was a difficult one, as many fantastic photos were submitted by inspiring individuals. While our applause goes out to all the participants, we especially congratulate the following three Challengers for their winning achievements:
3rd Place: Trevor P.
Living not far from Synergy HQ in Utah, Trevor participated in the Challenge, hoping to find the success he hadn’t found elsewhere. Trevor had sampled more than a handful of diets throughout his lifetime, and found most to be unrealistic, discouraging, and too drastic for his lifestyle. Now, using Synergy products, and with the help of coach Tommy Bethards, Trevor achieved over 60 pounds of weight loss (20% of his starting body weight!), progress that he plans to maintain and improve upon going forward. Congratulations to Trevor on his new physique, his $250 prize, and his overall success as a SLMsmart Challenger.
2nd Place: Kevin B.
The California sun shined on Kevin over the past 90-days as he exercised, ate smart and worked toward transformation. “What a life changing experience,” said Kevin. “Great products, coaching, and work-outs.” These led Kevin to lose 34 pounds (16% of his total body weight).
Synergy Team Member and Challenge Coach Tommy Bethards remarked that “Kevin has done something which is pretty hard to do. He cut a lot of fat without losing much strength. In fact, his whole upper body looks more muscular which, to me, just shows that he was dieting the right way.
1st Place: Eric P.
With a contagious smile and a voice that sounds strikingly similar to Matthew McConaughey, Eric Poland of Kentucky has won the top prize in this year’s SLMsmart Challenge. He lost 40 pounds, 20% of his body weight and about 7 inches from his waist. What makes Eric’s story all the more interesting is that he also competed in last year’s SLMsmart Challenge and lost 20 pounds then! Unsatisfied with last year’s results, and knowing that he could do better, Eric made this second effort and gave it his all. Truly a smart decision!
Eric is a former teacher and coach, a devoted husband, a father to two beautiful, young children (one of whom has been diagnosed with special needs including cerebral palsy), and a full-time employee at the world’s only Corvette manufacturing plant. Did you know that simply spending time in nature is actually beneficial to your mental and physical health? Check out these remarkable benefits you will experience by getting out of your house and basking in the tranquility of the natural world.
1. Improved Memory and Concentration
Clearly, there’s something about fresh air and an open landscape that does the brain good. Here’s proof. In a study conducted by the University of Michigan, a group of students were issued a memory test and then split into two groups upon completing the test. Both groups went for a walk. One group went on a walk through the forest while the other group went through the city. Upon completing their walks, they took the memory test again. Those who walked through the forest scored higher on the test than those who didn’t.
Restored Energy
Researchers call the occasional brain fogs you experience “mental fatigue.” You know, the feeling you get when you completely forget your train of thought. Exposing your mind to natural environments can have a restorative effect on mental energy and focus. There have even been studies suggesting that experiencing natural beauty can elicit feelings of awe and can be a quick way to provide a mental boost. 2. Relief from Daily Stress

A study conducted in Japan in 2010 asked a group of individuals to camp outside for three days and two nights. Researchers discovered that white blood cell activity increased resulting in white blood cell production. Globally, about 350 million people struggle with depression and one in the three people deal with anxiety. Scientists at Stanford University published a study in Proceeding of the National Academy of Science that shows those who walked in a natural setting opposed to an urban setting had decreased activity in the subgenual prefrontal cortex, a region of the brain that focuses repeatedly on negative emotions. Many medical professionals are now suggesting nature therapy as part of prescribed mental health regimens.

Prior to becoming a Synergy Team Member, David owned the largest independent car dealership in Florida before the economic decline in 2008. As he moved from company to company, he committed to Synergy in October of 2015 and hasn’t looked back.
David has been involved in network marketing for over 20 years. His professional accomplishments span a large range of companies and personal networks.
“My friends and colleagues have seen me work with a lot of different companies, but they all tell me that they’ve never seen me work with any business like I have with Synergy,” David said.
When David’s friends and acquaintances see his dedication to Synergy, they became curious. This has led them to learn more about Synergy, and David is confident in sharing Synergy’s credibility and history.
